Healing School: Lesson Two, Bearing the Glory of God in Your Body So Others May Live. (I Corinthians 6: 13-20)
In Lesson One of Healing School, we learned how to heal the sick that are among the lost (sinners) using the “BBCP” technique. (See Jan. 31, 2021 sermon). Today, we will focus our attention on the physical body of the Reaper, which carries the glory of God in it. The idea here is to get you to understand the importance of your body in doing the work of God, and surrender it completely to Him for service.
Most Christians, like the people in the world, have little or no understanding of the human body, from spiritual point of view. As such, they grossly abuse and undervalue their bodies. Most people concern themselves with performing natural acts with their bodies, such as bath, clothe, groom, feed, exercise, perform daily activities, and rest it. Of course, these are all necessary and good things to do for the body—but they fall far short of the intended purposes for which God has designed the body to perform.
In I Corinthians 6, the Apostle Paul uses the majority of the chapter to admonish the Christians at Corinth to abstain from various practices of sin, such as idolatry and sexual immorality, including homosexuality. The practice of these sins prevent Christians from inheriting the kingdom of God, which includes healing the sick. (I Corinthians 6: 9). Moreover, Paul goes to great lengths in writing about the devastating damage that fornication does to the human body and spirit. And, Paul warned the Christians to run away from fornication. (Vs. 13-18)
But in his warning to Christians, Paul is also revealing the plans and purposes that God has for the human body, and in so doing, he takes us into a deeper understanding of how the Christian body is to function to please God. They are as follows:
(1) The body will be changed into the likeness of the resurrected body of Jesus Christ, when Jesus raptures His Church. (Vs.14, Romans 6:5, I Thessalonians 4:14-17). The glorified body will live forever without aging, never experience sickness and disease, transport itself throughout the universe, and forever worship and render service unto Jesus Christ in the new heavens and earth. (Revelation 21: 1-6)
(2) The body is membered to Christ—meaning every part of the human body bears the anointing of Christ, which removes burdens and destroys yokes. (Vs.15, and Isaiah 10:27)
Let me prove to you that as a born-again Christian, you have the anointing of Jesus Christ in you. Hold your right arm straight out loud, and take your left hand and try to pull your arm down. Notice, that you have no problem immediately pulling the arm down. Now, try to do the same thing, but this time say ou tloud, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) Miraculously, now your arm cannot be pulled down now. That is the anointing of Christ magnifying and radiating power throughout your arm, which overrides your own personal strength. If you put any other name in the verse, such as your own name, you will notice that your right arm will immediately be pulled down by your left hand.
(3) The body is joined to the Lord, as one spirit. (vs.17) Every Christian is one in heart and spirit with each other, just as Jesus Christ and God are joined together, and The Father and Son are joined together with all of us as one! (John 17:20-23) Jesus affirmed to His Father God, that He has given unto each one of us the glory that He received from God.
(4) The body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is a gift from God. (vs. 19)
(5) The body is to glorify God. (vs.20)
(6) The body is owned by God. (vs.20)
Since the human body is owned by God, then it should only be used as it pleases God, and not ourselves. Our bodies should be free from the practice of sin as Paul notes, and should be fully yielded unto God to serve Him. As I mentioned before, Jesus has given to us His glory—meaning the ability to manifest through our bodies the wonderful works of God. The physical body of the Reaper carries within it the glory of God, and the body is intended to release healing so that all people who will believe in Jesus Christ may be healed and come to complete restoration.
So let’s yield our bodies unto righteousness—unto God’s way of doing things. (Romans 6:13) Right now, just lift up your holy hands and hearts to God, and say here I am Lord, send me, and use me as you see fit. Now, look at your hands. You are membered to Christ, and as such, your hands have been established/instituted by spiritual law to do the works of God! (Psalm 90:17) Everything that you set your hands to is blessed and required to replicate in favor and goodness. (Deuteronomy 28:13) When you lay hands on a sick person they will get well, and that healed person in turn can minister healing to another sick person…and on and on—because of the glory of Jesus Christ in your body has the ability to replicate!
Abraham serves as an example of bearing the glory of God in his body. After he confessed his faults with king Abimelech, in which he deceived the king about his relationship with Sarah his wife, Abraham prayed to God, and God healed the king Abimelech and his wife, and his maidservants and the king’s entire household were able to conceive and have children. (Genesis 20:10-18) Moreover, after this, God immediately healed Sarah who was barren and she gave birth to Isaac. (Genesis 21:1-3) One man’s prayer (Abraham) healed a multitude of people, including his own household!
A little known biblical character named Ananias is another example of bearing the glory of Christ in his body, as he played a pivotal role in the dawning of the ministry of the Apostle Paul. (Acts 9:10-20). At the command of Jesus Christ, Ananias searched for Saul (Paul) who was left blind after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Ananias went into the house where Paul was staying and put his hands on Paul and immediately he received his site and was filled with the Holy Ghost.
Thereafter, Paul went forth preaching the gospel and using his own hands to heal the sick and raise the dead. Paul did special miracles, in which many sick folks brought handkerchiefs and aprons to place in his hands and on his body, and diseases and devils departed from the people. (Acts 19: 10-12) Also, on one of Paul’s missions, He was preaching late into the night, and a young man named Eutychus fell asleep near an open window on the third floor of a building, and fell to his death. Paul went down and stretched his body over Eutychus, embraced him, and raised him from the dead. (Acts 20: 9-12) With his hands, Paul healed the father of Publius who was sick of a fever and blood disorder, and many others who were sick came to Paul and he healed them. (Acts 28:7-9)
Dear student, remember that we are all joined together in one spirit. The glory of God, which Jesus has given to us to do miracles is available for replication to all who would believe in Jesus Christ. However, it is vitally important for Christians to openly and honestly confess their faults to each other. The cover up of sin is a major source for sickness and disease attacking the bodies of Christians. Never hide your sin and missteps! Far too many Christians conceal their faults rather than confessing them, like Abraham did with king Abimelech. Revealing weaknesses and faults with your sister or brother in Christ, and removing them, allows the glory of God to flow through Christians freely, and for healing to replicate in others. The diligent prayers of the righteous makes tremendous power available that is dynamic in its working. (Amplified Bible James 5:16) This means when the righteous pray, after confessing their faults to each other, the healing power of God constantly changes and is progressive in its working in others.
Lastly, remember the words of Jesus Christ at Matthew 10:7-8. Jesus commanded His disciples to go and preach the gospel of the kingdom of God, heal the sick, as well as perform other miracles. Notice that Jesus said, freely they had received, (the ability to heal), freely give it away.” Be a super spreader of the glory of God with your bodies!
