Series: “There Is Something About the Name of Jesus!”
Sermon: “The Greatness of Jesus’ Name Is Ours!”
Presenter: Rev. Dr. JoAnne P. King

- We need to have knowledge of the Name of Jesus and our authority in that Name.
Last week we learned, that everything God created was perfect, including Lucifer, an archangel. We read that Lucifer was described as the prince of Tyrus and the king of Tyrus (Ezekiel 28:2, 12-15).
Iniquity was found in Lucifer when he led a rebellion against God because Lucifer wanted to take God’s place. As a result, his name was changed to Satan and he became known as the devil, as well. Lucifer didn’t have any tempters to challenge him—or make him commit high treason. Nor were there any liars because everything was good, so he invented the lie. That is why he is called the father of lies.
There is another description of Lucifer: son of the morning or “morning star.” Isaiah 14:12 says: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
[The imagery of the “morning star” is used to describe both Lucifer (before his fall) and Jesus (in Revelation 22:16). However, in Isaiah the morning star is associated with pride and a fall from grace, while in Revelation, it symbolizes Jesus’s divine radiance and promise.]
There are fossil records that support pre-Adamites (beings) and pre-historic animals (dinosaurs, etc.) being on this earth before man.
We saw in Genesis 1:1 that Elohim which is plural and represents (God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit) created or (bara) meaning to make. However, in Genesis 1:3 on, God gave His permission to let things be restored, replenished, made things- not created and said be fruitful and replenish the earth. He merely restored the earth back to the condition it was in, in Gen. 1:1. Last but certainly not least, He made Adam and Eve in their image (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). They were made out of the dust of the ground to have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Lastly, God blessed them and said unto them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it.
Saints, we know that Jesus is the Word—therefore, all of these words spoken in Genesis 1 were spoken by whom? Jesus! Jesus spoke those words in unity with the Father and Holy Spirit and brought everything into existence. When Adam sinned, his power and dominion over the earth was now in Satan’s hands. Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection took the keys of death and the power and dominion from Satan and have now been given to us! From this you can see that we have been given our power and authority in the Name of Jesus! Hallelujah!
- God has given us authority in the Name of Jesus and His armor. (Eph. 6)
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [Your high calling has been laid before you and the great doctrines of the gospel. You will be shown the enemies that will oppose you and how you can overcome them (v 10-18).]
“Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.[Gr. enduo means to put on. Matt. 27:31 = says: “And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.” Be clothed with Rev. 1:13 = says: “And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.” Be clothed in Rev. 19:14 = says: “And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen white and clean.” and be arrayed in (12:21). The only normal New Testament program is anyone clothed with this power will be able to confirm what he preaches. Mk. 16:17-18 says: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name, shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”]
Wiles of the devil = [Gr. methodeias, means methods-the different means, plans, and schemes used to deceive, entrap, enslave, and ruin the souls of men. A man’s method of sinning is the devil’s method of damning his soul. Additionally, it signifies the art, wile, stratagem, or method of the devil to destroy souls by fallacy. 1 Tim. 4:1 Amp. says: “Now the Holy Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons.” It refers to the systematizing of error and making it such a perfect counterfeit of truth that only those who are experienced in truth can detect it.]
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. [Gr. pale, means wrestle. Only here, it refers to warfare in general between saints and spirit rebels who are against God.]
[There are four kinds of spirit rebels:
- Gr. archas, principalities, chief rulers of beings of the highest rank and order in Satan’s kingdom (v 12; 1:21; Col. 2:10)
- Gr. exousias, authorities, those who derive their power from and execute the will of the chief rulers (v 12; 1:21; Col. 2:10).
- Gr. kosmokratopas, world-rulers of the darkness of this age, the spirit world-rulers. (Col. 1:16-18 says: “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him:
“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
“And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first born from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”
- Gr. pneumatika ponerias, spiritual wickedness, that of the wicked spirits of Satan in the heavenlies (v 12: 1:21; Col. 1:16-18).]
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”. [Since you have such enemies (v 12), be endued with or clothed with the armor of God. It will make you invulnerable and victorious (v 13-18).
[Two kinds of armor:
Defensive armor for protection:
Gr. perikephalaia, means the helmet – for the head and of various forms embossed with many kinds of figures.
- Gr. zoma, the girdle – for the loins, to brace the armor tight against the body, and support daggers, swords and other weapons.
- Gr. thoraz, the breastplate in two parts – one to cover the breast and the other the back to protect the vital organs of the body. It extended down to the legs.
- Gr. knemides, brazen boots for the feet to cover the front of the leg. A kind of solea was often used to protect the feet from rocks, thorns, etc.
- Gr. thureos, shield, to protect the body from blows and cuts.
Offensive armor for conquest:
- Gr. machaira, sword, to destroy the enemy and bring his surrender. Besides the sword, other weapons of offense were used – the spear, lance, battle-axe, club, bow and arrows and sling.]
What does Jesus expect of us as Christian warriors? Ephes. 6:13-18 Amp. says: “Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].
“So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), “and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].
“Above all, lift up the
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
“With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in pray] for all God’s people.”
In the Old Testament, Daniel was told of these demons of spiritual wickedness in high places. Daniel 10:2-3 says: “In those days, I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” [This is a long time for a man to be in fasting, prayer, and constant emotional strain. This is the same as saying that he was on a total fast, not on a diet as some today call a Daniel’s fast.]
Daniel was fasting to know God’s will concerning the Jews. Daniel 10:10-13 says: “And, behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.”
[In verses 5-6, the person described is the Son of man in great detail and is identical to what is recorded in Rev. 1:12-17. In Daniel 8:13-19, Gabriel is instructed by another person to make the vision known to Daniel. Likewise in Daniel 10:11-12, it is clear that a heavenly being sent him.]
“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard and I am come for thy words.”
This is an example of prayer being delayed (Dan. 10:12-13). Such delays should never hinder faith or cause one to give up seeking an answer that is promised by God. They should only urge one to renew his efforts and to hold on in prayer and faith until the answer is realized (Lk. 18:1-8). Then he is told that: “I am come to answer the prayer that you have prayed.” This shows exactly what Daniel prayed for and demonstrates that the very words said in prayer are heard and can be answered. [Mt. 7:7-11 says: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
“For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.“Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? “Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent.]
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
“But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the king of Persia.”
The demon prince of Persia held back Gabriel, the messenger angel, until Michael, the archangel of the armies of God, came to help him. This is the satanic prince or ruler of the kingdom of Persia, one ruling the kingdom of Persia for Satan who is recognized in Scripture as being the god and ruler of this world, having usurped man’s dominion.
Jn. 8:44 says: “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Over all the governments of this world, Satan has his trusted angels who are responsible to him for carrying out his will in those governments. He seeks to hinder God’s plan in the fulfillment of prophecy regarding world kingdoms.
God also has trusted angels and they carry out His will concerning what He has predicted to take place in the kingdoms of this world. The Bible also contains numerous examples of angels intervening in human affairs to fulfill God’s purposes. These include delivering messages, providing protection, and even executing judgment. For example, angels are mentioned in the stories of Abraham, Lot, Daniel, and the early church, showcasing their active involvement in biblical events.
In Luke 4:10: this verse also references Psalm 91:11, further reinforcing the idea that God assigns angels to guard and protect people. Hence, the wars between these two groups of angels in the heavenlies. Rev. 12:7-9: This section explicitly details the battle, stating, “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.” This passage identifies Michael as the leader of the angels who fight against Satan. The dragon is identified as Satan, the devil, and the deceiver of the whole world.
All wars lost or won on earth are the results of wars lost or won by these heavenly armies. Not only over every government of this world are there good and evil spirit beings seeking to influence and carry out the will of their masters, but over every individual life, the same is true (Mt. 18:10; Heb. 1:14). In Jude 9 Amp. says: “But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil (Satan), and arguing about the body of Moses, did not dare bring an abusive condemnation against him, but [simply] said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Satan himself, is active along the line of seeking to defeat God’s purpose in the lives of His children (1 Chr. 21:1; Job 1:6; 2:1). Daniel 10:19-20 says: “And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, let my Lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? And now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. [The prince of Grecia is referred to in v 20.]
[When I leave you, I will have another fight with the prince of Persia (the satanic ruler of Persia). This is the continuance of the war of v 13-14.] [The prince of Grecia is the satanic ruler; prince of the Grecian Empire that caused Alexander the Great to be so successful in 13 years as to destroy the Medo-Persian Empire completely. This prince of Grecia is the spirit now confined to the abyss who will come out in the last days and cause the human Antichrist to revive the old Grecian Empire, so that they all can oppose Jesus Christ at Armageddon.]
I have given you the above examples of prayers being offered to God that were intercepted by satanic forces, so that you will not be unaware of what forces could be delaying your answer(s) to prayer. Instead of becoming dejected, you have to encourage yourself in the Lord. Knowing that you have power in the Name of Jesus and continue to war and fight the good fight of faith!
- In the United States, Cherokee artifacts have been found with pictorial writing and other artifacts around the world.
A Professor Stephens who is an expert in the Hebrew language says the pictorial writing is the ancient Paleo-Hebrew language. The drawings depict the Name of the Lord—the pictures that represent the Hebrew letters Yud, Hey, Vav, Hey. The pictures are: Behold the Hand, and Behold the Nail. It’s a picture symbol so, they would recognize Jesus when He came.
There are other artifacts found around the world that attest to the greatness of Jesus, such as, the “empty tomb” found in the Mount of Olives. Jesus is the only person to have died and been resurrected from the dead, and is alive forever more.
The “Shroud of Turin,” that covered our Lord and Savior’s face. It is supposed to contain the outline of His Face.
The “skull” naturally carved out of the side of the mountain leading to Golgotha. This verifies the place as Jesus’ crucifixion site.
The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, the last standing wall of the 2nd Temple. The Temple Mount that is in such contention today between the Jews and the Muslims. The Muslims have built their places of worship on the Temple Mount. The anticipation of the Third Temple signifies hope for many believers around the world. It represents a time of restoration, unity, and the culmination of God’s promises. This hope encourages us to remain steadfast in faith as we look forward to the fulfillment of God’s plans for redemption. The Third Temple stands as a symbol of God’s presence and faithfulness, motivating us to live with expectation and joy as we await His glorious return.
- God’s Name is powerful, and His power and glory are awesome!
The Name of Jesus is above all the names in heaven and earth. Every part of creation must bow its knee to the Name of Jesus.
We know that Name! It is the Name of goodness, the Name of power, the Name of wonders, the Name of greatness, and it’s ours!
In conclusion, Philippians 2:9-11 says the above so beautifully, it reads: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [When we say things under the earth, it means= subterranean; infernal world– Mt. 12:40 says: “For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea Monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
This includes the angelic inhabitants in Tartarus– Jude 6-7 says: “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.” The pre-Adamites and demon inhabitants of the abyss –Lk 8:31 says: “And they continually begged him not command them to go into the abyss.” And Rev. 20:3 – says: “And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”
The giant races that have no resurrection — Isa. 26:14 says: “They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore; hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.” [The giants have no resurrection as the dead of Israel. The giants were progenies of fallen angels and not ordinary men who do have resurrection.] The human inhabitants of Shoel-hades — Ps. 9:17 Amp. says: “The wicked will turn to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), Even all the nations who forget God.” and all other inhabitants of the infernal world– Rev. 5:13 says: “And I heard every created thing that is in heaven or on earth or under the earth [in Hades, the realm of the dead] or on the sea and everything that is in them, saying [together],” “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb (Christ), be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.” This proves that hell is not the grave.
“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Always remember that there is power in the Name of Jesus and that name will open doors for you! What might seem impossible is possible for you. Use your faith in the name of Jesus and expect success, for it is yours! Amen and Amen!
