Sermon Part 2: “Jesus is Calling All to come into the Knowledge of the Only True God and Made Be Free.”

This Series is dedicated and directed solely to born-again Christians, bought and payed for by and through the precious shed blood of Jesus Christ, The Lord.
Good Morning Saints of the Most-High God!
The High-Priestly Prayer of Christ to Know The Only True God
Jesus Christ prayed the Prayer recorded in John 17 on the same evening after sharing the Passover meal with His disciples, but before He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to be arrested, and before His trial and crucifixion. This Prayer, also known in Christian Circles as the “High Priestly Prayer,” took place in the Upper Room where the Last Supper was held, and after the Resurrection of Jesus 120-believers on the Day of Pentecost were filled with the Holy Ghost and power.
Today, we will examine Christ’s first petition to God the Father found in John 17:2-3: Jesus prayed that all people in the world God has predestinated, chosen, and called into Christ’s fold might “know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom God has sent.” Last week, by way of illustration, we said that the born-again heart of every Christian lives within a “Bubble of Truth,” sealed by the Holy Ghost until the Day of Redemption. (Eph. 1:13-14)

God is a God of Truth, and we abide in Him, and He in us. (I John 4:15) Thus, our sanctified hearts are full of Truth. Praise God, just like Jesus Christ, our inner-man is full of grace and Truth, and knows of no lie! Neither is it possible for our hearts to lie!
Hear me Saints, God and all of Heaven expects that we learn to always speak the “Truth” contained in our hearts, and do that which is right in the sight of Almighty God. This assures that we are on one accord with God, and God’s power is able to continually flow through us to do supernatural good works in the earth. In Psalm 15:1-2, David declared:
Lord who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in my holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.
So, in Christ’s Prayer to God the Father, He desires for every born-again Christian to have intimate knowledge and experience with the only “True God” in our hearts and whole beings. This relationship is called eternal life, and when you know the only True God, the Truth will make you “free” to experience abundant life; the God kind-of-life that God sent Jesus into the world to give to all people now and forevermore. (John 10:10)
When you know the only True God you will speak the Truth from your heart and see your words quicken dead things to life. Moved by the Holy Ghost, you will see God-good things in the Spirit, and call things that do not exist, as though they did. This is the freedom that Jesus wants His disciples to walk in, and give away, and is available to all who are willing to dedicate themselves to Truth.
Saints, after this Meeting, I pray you will know the only True God and Jesus Christ, not just in your inner-man, but also in the experience of your daily life. That you would know the only True God in the experience of life, far greater than you know the answer to the simple math equation of 1 + 1. Saints, please solve the addition problem shown below, as likely it was the first math problem you learned to solve as a young child.

Even if you didn’t know the correct answer before, the Picture above gives you the answer: 1+1 = 2. Now, if I said to you the answer is not 2, but any other number like 5, 25, or 64 immediately you would tell me that I’m wrong. If I insisted on being correct, you would brand it as non-sense!
Umm, notice when asked how much 1 + 1 equals, you answered “2” without hesitation, doubt, anger, or even impatience with me for asking such a simple thing. No matter how many times I might try to make you believe the answer is different, you remain the same, the answer is 2. In knowing the right answer there is a sense of confidence, forthrightness, and freedom you have in knowing the correct answer, and a willingness to share and teach others who may not know the correct answer.
Moreover, you can prove your math work. For example, you can show that by taking a one dollar bill and adding it to another one dollar bill results in having two dollar bills, right? From this example we can learn that the Truth does not change, no matter who comes in contact with it and uses it; the result will always be the same. The Truth is always right and wins! I can’t speak for you but I always want to win at everything I do; not by cheating, stealing, or lying. But, just by being “True” to who God has called me to be, speaking Truth from the heart, and doing that which is right.
Most Christians Lack Practical Knowledge of the Only True God and Jesus Christ
Now, when it comes to the “only True God and Jesus Christ,” seemingly the majority of born-again Christians do not yet know the only “True God” in their human experience. Many do not know that every Promise of God is “Truth” and always causes the person who obeys it to win in life. This is a very bold assertion that most of us do not know the only True God and Jesus Christ, but it’s borne out every day in the behavior and performance of Christians. While our inner-beings know the only true God and Jesus Christ. That God and Jesus are “One,” and that Jesus is God; the majority of Christians do not know in daily living the only True God.
For example, when the majority of Christians commit a sin, they habitually ask God to forgive them. How about you, if you sin what do you say to God?
However, listen to what the only True God says about our sins?
See Psalm 32:1
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
See Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
See Romans 4:7-8
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
See Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
See Hebrews 10:16-18
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
See Ephesians 1:6-7
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We have a Covenant with the only True God that through the finished works of Jesus Christ on the cross we have the forgiveness of sins (an inheritance of forgiveness), God does not count our sins against us, nor does He remember them. Yet, every time Christians commit sins they keep asking God to forgive their wrong doing. Like an old broken LP-record they say, “Lord please forgive me for my sins, Lord please forgive me for my sins, Lord please forgive me for my sins.” Most likely, this Sunday morning, some well-meaning Christian is sitting in a Church pew, or standing at an altar, begging God to forgive them for a sin. Or even worse, many Christians choose to hide sin. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
If the Christian commits a sin, they must never take it lightly nor cover it up, but move quickly to deal with it according to the “Truth” that abides within their born-again hearts. More specifically, when a sin has been committed the Christian must “speak the Truth that is in their heart.” Here is the Truth that must flow from the heart of the born-again Christian if they sin, they must:
(1) Thank God they are blessed;
(2) Thank God they have an inheritance of forgiveness from sin;
(3) They should say to the Lord, “Lord I repent of the sin;”
(4) Thank the Holy Ghost for reproving them of the sin, and with the help and power of the Holy Ghost resolve to change their ways of thinking and doing things to line up with the Truth;
(5) Ask the Holy Ghost to lead and guide them into all righteous living through obedience to the Word of God, so that their words and deeds might be acceptable and pleasing in the Lord’s sight; and
(6) Knowing that the blood of Jesus has made them free from all sin, they must live free from all guilt, regret, and condemnation. (Rom. 2:4, 8:1-3, II Cor. 7:9-10, & II Cor. 12:21)
Born-again Christians must come into the knowledge that for all eternity, when God looks at us, He looks upon the heart and sees Jesus Christ who is full of grace and Truth, for our lives are hidden in God in Christ. (I Sam.16:7, II Cor. 5:17, Rom. 8:1-3, & Col. 3:1-3) God knows us after the Spirit of the Life and Mind of Jesus Christ, and we have been made a part of an Everlasting Covenant with God in which He is forever exceedingly gracious and kind towards us! (Eph. 2:5-10) The only True God has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Heb.13:5-6)
Praise God, before the foundations of the world, God predetermined that we would be sons/heirs of God and seated together with Christ in heavenly places with all spiritual blessings flowing through our born-again hearts, and He Promised us eternal life (intimate knowledge and fellowship with the only True God and Jesus Christ). (Rom. 8:29-30, Eph.1:3-5 & Titus 1:2)
Sadly, despite all that God has Promised and given to us, for many Christians much of their worship and prayer life is centered on talking with God about acts of sin and asking for forgiveness. It seems as though many Christians have locked into a mind-set that they are “imperfect,” and therefore prone to sin. But the only True God has called, sanctified, and made us “perfect” through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. (Heb.10:14)
Another evidence that most Christians do not know the only True God and Jesus Christ, is seen in the expressed little to no faith they have in God providing for their future welfare. Christians are forever worried about the economy; their careers and job status, where they will live, what they will eat and drink, and be clothed. But what does the only True God say about our source, supply, and provision for all things?
See Matthew 6:25-34:
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
See Rom. 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Saints, we are in Christ and with Christ. Thus, if we trust in Jesus, we will freely receive all things that we need in this life and the new world to come. As God has supplied Jesus with all things, from our hearts we must speak the Truth that “God has freely given to us all things.” We must acknowledge with our hearts and mouths that the “Lord is our Shepherd and we shall not lack any good thing.” (Ps. 23:1) Again I say, everything that God has given to Jesus, He has also given to us. We must know this, rest, and be free to live our lives in Christ no matter the circumstances.
Finally, if Christians knew the only True God and Jesus Christ they would never identify themselves nor vow allegiance to political affiliations, fraternities and sororities, and zodiac signs coinciding with their birth month. Hath not God said, thou shall have no other god before me? (Ex. 20:3, Matt. 5:34-37 & James 5:12) Are the Saints unaware of the unfathomable and immeasurable Love God has graciously poured out on us; calling us “the sons of God?” (I John 3:1) The sons of God are full of the grace and Truth of Christ, they are led and directed by the Spirit of God, and are destined to overcome every trouble that is in the world by and through the knowledge that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Living God. (John 1:10-13, Rom. 8:14, & I John 5:4-5) As such, the only nomenclature we should attest to from our hearts and with our mouths is that we are “The sons of God who have overcome the world by faith in Jesus Christ.”
Because many Christians lack knowledge of the only True God and Jesus Christ, they are sin conscious, bound, and burdened down with the cares of this world. They don’t know the only True God with assurance like they know how to add 1+1.
Right now Saints, let’s submit ourselves to Jesus’ petition at John 17:3 and receive by faith knowledge of the only True God and Jesus Christ, both within our inner-man and human experience in every endeavor. Let’s affirm with our hearts and mouths that we have intimate knowledge of the only True God and Jesus Christ, that we have eternal life working in us and through us! Let’s confess the Truth about our relationship with the only Holy One saying, “God is my life and the length of my days.” (Deut. 30:20) “Therefore, I live and abide in Truth within the Holy Tabernacle of Almighty God!” These are acceptable meditations of the heart of born-again Christians that are well pleasing in God’s sight.
This knowledge of the only True God and Jesus Christ is contained within our born-again hearts, testified of by the Holy Ghost and communicated and made known to our thought-life (brains). Christ’s Prayers are always heard by God the Father and answered affirmatively. Everything that Jesus asks the Father for is manifested in magnificence! Everything that God shares with Jesus has been given to us, and we have received the only True God in fullness into our born-again hearts. So much so that the only True God lives through us and gives us freedom from all sin, depression, sickness and disease, bondage, and corruption!
Saints, God wants us to be free. To be free means to have the liberty to act, speak, and make choices according to the Word of God, without undue restriction, interference, or fear of the devil and the kingdom of darkness. Jesus Christ is recorded at John 8:31-32 saying:
If you continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed, And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Being free means living burden-less and sinless. To be free encompasses autonomy and an ability to live according to God’s Word, making personal decisions about your life, family, business, and legal affairs without being forced or controlled by others. Yes, when you know the only True God you are free in deed. Jesus said, if the Son sets you free you are free indeed. (John 8:36) To continue in His Word means to remain faithful to His teachings, obey them, and allow them to shape one’s life, demonstrating a lasting, abiding faith rather than a temporary belief. Therefore, knowing the Truth of God’s Word makes us free.
More Insights on Christ’s First Petition of God the Father
Now let’s dig deeper into the central reason for Christ’s first petition Prayer that we might know the only True God and Jesus Christ. The reason is, God does not want us to be confused and misled to worship and serve false gods. For eternity is an awfully long time to be wrong!

The plain Truth is, all life is in Jesus Christ, and every person and or thing that presumes to be outside of Him is death. (I John 5:11-12) As such, it is critically important that all people know and live in Truth; simply because life on earth has both temporal and eternal consequences for being wrong. For example, giving someone the wrong amount of a medication can kill them; having an investment manager make the wrong monetary decisions can impoverish a family; boarding the wrong plane will take you where you do not wish to go; and dealing with an unfaithful marriage partner can result in the destruction of a family, and potentially disease.
But, nowhere are the consequences more important than in the area of faith and religion. If a person fails to worship and serve the only True God and Jesus Christ, they will be condemned to the eternal brimstones and fires of hell along with Satan and the kingdom of darkness. This is the Truth, as God is not a respecter of persons. Sadly, multi-millions of people are lost and will make hell their eternal home because they chose to believe in and follow after a false-god and false-religion.
Though God has set in the heart of every human being an inner sense that we are not finite creatures and that we have been created by someone greater than us for a greater purpose, (Eccl.3:11) many people search all their lives in all the wrong places for a Supreme-Being, for the answers to life, happiness, and fulfillment. Even though the only True God and Jesus Christ are not far from them, they never accept the Truth written within the Holy Bible that plainly points them to the only wise God.
At the behest of Satan, since Adam’s transgression in the Garden of Eden, Mankind has fallen prey to seeking and worshipping false gods. This is all Satan has to offer any person or thing are lies as he is the “father of lies.” (John 8:44) In the before times, within in his own heart he lied to himself, the heavenly host, and created beings of the earth called Pre-Adamites, about exalting himself above the only True God. Satan thereafter fell like lightening from heaven down to the sides of the pit of hell in disgrace. (Is.14:12-15 & Luke 10:18)
Influenced by Satan, people who do not know the Only True God and Jesus Christ, choose to worship physical idols such as statutes and religious objects, as well as abstract concepts and modern phenomena like money, power, celebrates, technology, and even concepts like social influence, political power, family or success. When these things are placed above a relationship with God and Jesus Christ they become practiced idolatry.
Historically, idols that men worshipped included deities in animal form (like the golden calf in the Bible) or anthropomorphic forms (human like statutes), while contemporary worship of idols can involve placing undue importance or reliance on worldly things for ultimate purpose, comfort or satisfaction. These dumb idols did not create themselves, rather they were man-made under the influence of the tempter Satan.
As noted last week, in the world today, there an estimated 4,500 to10,000 religions outside of Christianity; making them false-religions. This is what Satan wants people to do; to believe the lie that there are many gods and pathways to God. Whenever I think about a Bible character falling into idolatry, I am reminded of the wisest man to live on earth, King Solomon and his down-fall. Despite God’s Commands and Warnings not go after strange women, he married hundreds of foreign women and had hundreds of concubines, which led him to build altars for other gods, worshipped before them and sorely compromised his relationship with God. Ultimately, Solomon’s idolatry resulted in the division of the united kingdom of Israel, though the division happened after his death for the sake of his father, King David. (I Kings Ch.11)
Saints, many times in Ministry I have heard people utter the foolish lie, as I am sure you have heard too, that says, “There are many pathways to God.” Not So! I lament long in my heart for people, even some Christians, who say it’s ok to dibble and dabble in horoscopes, wedgie boards, psychic hotlines, or palm reading.
I also cry out to God for the masses of people I see and hear pointing to Muhammad, Buddha, and Cressida as their God or way to God and utopia. They are grossly deceived. The practice of idolatry will separate any person who practices it from the Truth, and lead them down a pathway of lies, deception, destruction, and death. Worshipping idols instead of the only True God results in the precious souls of people subjecting themselves to eternal damnation. (Rev. 21:8) Again, the Truth is, God and Jesus Christ are “One,” and “Jesus is God.” Acts 4:12 states:
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Every false religion lies against this Truth that the name of Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Many religions want to label Jesus as only a prophet, misinterpret His role, and/or deny His divinity. They tell of some Truths about Jesus, but deny the Absolute Truth that He is the only begotten Son of God the Father.
The only way to know the only True God is to know His Son Jesus. So that there would be no confusion among the Lord’s disciples before Jesus went to the cross, He exclaimed His “Oneness” with God to the disciples. At John 14:6 Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the father, but by me.”
Also, at John 14:8-9, when Philip beckoned Jesus to show to them the Father, Christ replied,
… Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
It’s this last phrase in Verse 10, in particular, that provides infallible proof that Jesus Christ is God: Jesus said, “The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” To know and experience the only True God, you must examine His works performed through Jesus Christ. On many occasions during Jesus’ public Ministry on earth He predicted His death, burial, and Resurrection from the dead. (Matt.16:21-23, Mark 8:31, Luke 9:22, and John 2:19-22) Jesus made clear that everything that He said and did, was only at the behest of God the Father. (John 5:19 &12:49) In the history of the world, no person or thing on earth claiming to be God has done such a feat as Jesus claimed.
Jesus’ predictions harmonized perfectly with Old Testament of prophecies, particularly Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, which told of the Messiah’s suffering, death, and Resurrection. Furthermore, the Apostle Paul later affirmed in I Corinthians 15:3-4 that Jesus died for sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead on the third-day, according to these Scriptures. Glory to God! The eternal fate of Mankind rests on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, for if He did not rise from the dead we are all most miserable, and still trapped in sin and destined for hell’s eternal fires.
But thanks be unto God, Jesus rose from the dead on the third-day as predicted and with many infallible proofs! (I Cor. 15:12-20 & Acts 1:3) The works of the Father God were accomplished through Jesus Christ, as above 500 eye-witnesses, plus the disciples and Paul saw the Resurrected Christ. (I Cor.15:6-8)
The plain Truth is, all life is in Jesus Christ, and every person and or thing that presumes to be outside of Him is death. (I John 5:11-12) As such, it is critically important that all people know and live in Truth; simply because life on earth has both temporal and eternal consequences for being wrong.
