Sermon Part 4: “Make Your Blessings of Others Count!”
Praise the Lord, for another day, and opportunity to share with you this glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Today, we are going to move into a higher dimension of Godly speech that every spiritual king and priest unto God (born-again Christian), must master in order to rule their world. That is, we must learn how to bless people correctly—the Bible-Way.
Psalm 50:23 says… “To him that orders his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.” Thus, we need to order our mouths aright so that the blessings we speak over people will count—come to pass in their lives—so that God may be glorified in the earth.
Now, with this topic on blessing others, you may think I am being too picky and technical. Well, I just happen to be a picky and technical kind of preacher and person. (Smile) As I explained last week, the words we speak are very important to God, our personal well-being, as well as the welfare of others. (Prov. 18:21 & Matt. 12:36-37)
When it comes to “The Blessing,” as you will soon learn, it is a very powerful tool in our spiritual war chest that we are to use to bring heavens’ best to every person on earth. Praise God!
So, I have entitled this Sermon: “Make Your Blessings of Others Count!” While this message relates to every person that we bless with our words, I want to focus mostly on our children and youth in this country. If there was ever a time our children needed the Lord, that time is more so now than ever before.
Among the myriad of crises our nation is facing today is youth substance abuse. According to substance abuse data prepared by the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics (NCDAS), “at least 1in 8 teenagers abused an illicit substance” in 2021.
Moreover, NCDAS reports that between, 2016 and 2020, drug use went up “61 percent among 8th graders.” “Sixty-two percent of teenagers by the time they had reached the 12th grade had abused alcohol.” And, “50 percent of teenagers had misused a drug at least once.”
Even more alarming, just last week, CNN News reported the results of a national study that estimated “200,000 years of life were lost due to illegal drug use by preteen and teenagers during 2014 through 2019”—as over 3,400 of our nation’s children died from drug overdoses. CNN also reported that many of these drug overdose deaths were due to young people having ingested the highly lethal substance called Fentanyl.
Experts have identified several factors for substance abuse among young people, including experimental curiosity, peer pressure, poor socio-economic conditions in homes, the perceived need for extra energy for daily activities, and family history with addiction.
To all of this pain, suffering, and death within our families and society, I say that Jesus Christ is the answer. The devil is lie! Satan comes only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy our families and society. Substance abuse is just another means by which Satan seeks to destroy the lives of many. But, Jesus Christ has come that we may all have life to the full in abundance! (John 10:10)
As spiritual kings and priests unto God, we reign in life with Jesus Christ. (Rom 5:17). We need to stop sitting idle while the adversary, the devil devours our nation’s children with the troubles and chaos of this world. Indeed, we have been graced by God to have received “all spiritual blessings in heavenly places” in Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1:3)
Every spiritual blessing we have been endowed with, was given to us before the foundation of the world, and the creation of Lucifer (turned Satan). Our spiritual blessings are far superior in intellect and power to the vices of Satan. For the Lord in us is greater than he that is in the world. (I John 4:4) We just need to learn how to use “The Blessing,” to reverse every curse of the wicked one, to bring heavens’ generational good and favor to all men!
We received the authority to bless others, especially our children, as a part of God’s operation of the “Circumcision” of our hearts. More specifically, when we believed on the name of Jesus Christ and confessed and received Him as Lord, God took up eternal residence in our inner-being. (I John 4:15)
God regenerated our hearts (spirit, soul, and mind), and poured in every spiritual empowerment that heaven owns by the Holy Ghost. One of the enumerable empowerments from the Holy Ghost is “The Blessing” of Abraham through faith in Jesus Christ. (Gal. 3:13-14).
As such, every blessing that God bestowed upon Abraham and his seed, we also have received. (Gal. 3:6-9 & Gen. 12:1-3). Set yourselves to understand that God has made you a blessing and commissioned you to go forth and be a blessing to your family and others.
God has favored His spiritual kings and priests with the authority to bless others with their hands and mouths, by speaking the promises of God contained in the Word of God. (Deut. 28:12, Ps. 90:17, & Heb.10:23) So when you bless people, the blessing you send to them should always show up on their lives—your blessings should always count!
However, most Christians waste this great treasure we have hidden in our hearts—“The Blessing.” Most Christians under estimate, appraise, and value “The Blessing.” We have become extremely lax and casual in our methods and words used to bless people.
For example, for most Christians, conferring blessings has become nothing more than a fleeting wish offered to other people in hopes of brightening their day. “The Blessing” is treated no different than extending a wish for someone to have a good morning or goodnight, or a greeting of hello or good-bye.
Here is a news flash for you! When the blessings we speak are not mixed with faith-filled words from the Word of God, they will not work! (Rom.10:17 & Heb.11:6) Every day, Christians say or write messages to fellow Christians, family, and other people saying, “Have a blessed day,” “Be blessed,” or “Blessings.” Also, in one of the verses of the Happy Birthday Song, everyone sings, “May God bless you.”
Further, when a person sneezes, without failure, someone, or even a room-full of people in unison will say, “God bless you.” And, the person who sneezed will reply,” thank you.” Perhaps they may also add that their allergies or sinuses are acting up.
Tell me, why would you say “God bless you,” solely because someone physically sneezed? Why don’t you say “God bless you” when a person yawns, coughs, vomits, or even passes gas? The truth is Christians are just following a man-made tradition in saying God bless you when a person sneezes. Traditions, make the Word of God of non-effect. (Mark 7:13)
Christians do not realize that when a person sneezes, and we offer God’s blessing, that it cannot be granted by God, because “The Blessing” will never work against the will and Word of God!
If we really understood what a “blessing” is and had knowledge of its power, we would use it much more wisely and effectively. Please examine Proverbs 10:22. Read it with me out loud:
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he
(God) addeth no sorrow with it.
The blessing of the Lord is a “benediction of the promise of prosperity directed toward a person to receive a specific thing.” When spiritual kings and priests unto God speak “The Blessing” in accordance with the Word of God, wherever and to whomever “The Blessing” of God is sent, it will make that thing rich.
The word “rich” in the Hebrew language is the word “Ashar” and means to accumulate, multiply, grow in wealth—to make wax rich. “The Blessing” of the Lord causes everything to grow, accumulate, and multiply exceedingly.
Thus, when Christians say to people when they sneeze, God bless you, unknowingly, they are really saying to God let your blessing make the person “rich in sneezing,” or cause the sneeze to multiply exceedingly. Think of how harmful it would be to a person’s health if they could not stop sneezing! On the contrary, God’s highest desire for us, is that we prosper and be in health, as our souls prosper. (III John 2) So, in this instance, the blessing as offered is contrary to the will of God.
Of course, the intent of Christians when they offer the blessing after the person sneezes is not for the person to continue sneezing, but for them to be well. But that was not communicated. In the kingdom of God, you cannot have what you have not said. (Mark 11:23-24) Though you may desire for the person to be well, without voice activating what you want, it will not come to pass.
If “The Blessing” of the Lord is targeted directly to the sneeze with a promise from the Word of God, then the decree can be granted by God. For example, if a person sneezes and you say “God bless you, be healed and relieved of sneezing, for God desires above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. In the name of Jesus Christ, all allergy and sinus problems be gone!”
Then, “The Blessing” will go to work as you have decreed it. Another way to bless a person who has sneezed would be to say, “God bless you be healed from all cold symptoms in Jesus name!”
Also, think about how we miss use “The Blessing” when we only say to another person, “Have a blessed day,” “Be blessed, or “Blessings.” There is little or no faith force behind saying this because it lacks specificity as to what you desire the person’s day to be blessed with. You have not connected a promise from the Word of God to the blessing offered. Thus, it has no effect. “The Blessing” without a promise attached to it, is dead standing alone!
“The Blessing” of the Lord is a Word-seed that must be properly sown into another person’s life to produce the intended harvest.
As I stated last week, in the natural, before planting any seed in the soil, the farmer is purposeful and specific about the type of seed desired to be planted and harvested.
You must use the same approach as the farmer in pronouncing “The Blessing” of the Lord upon people. Before you speak “The Blessing,” you must know what you desire the person to be blessed with—a promise from the Word of God—and then communicate it clearly to them.
Therefore, in conferring “The Blessing” on a person’s day, you might be led by the Holy Ghost to say, “the Lord shall bless your day at work or school, as I decree that it shall be filled with divine wisdom, favor, and security from God, such that all you set your mind and hands to do will prosper and bring forth success to the company, or in the classroom, in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Let’s go deeper in our understanding of how to bless others by examining several scriptures. Note that in each instance, “The Blessing” of the Lord is always spoken, and is specific in its promise to the person it is directed.
As I mentioned earlier, before the foundations of the world, God blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Eph.1:3) The blessings God has bestowed upon us are enumerable. But notice in the proceeding verses 4-22, how the Apostle Paul, makes mention of many of the promises we have from God, including that we are called holy, blameless, God’s adopted children, accepted in the beloved, redeemed, and forgiven of sins, and much more.
In fact, from the beginning of the recreated earth, God provided us with an example of how we are to bless others with specificity. (Gen. 1:28-30) In God’s divine plan for creating mankind (male and female) in His own image and likeness, God blessed them, and said, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.
Notice, God did not just say to mankind: “Be blessed,” “Stay blessed,” or “Have a blessed day.” No, no. He was very specific in speaking His promises so they would be planted in the heart of mankind and come to pass.
Examine the blessings God spoke over Abraham—blessings of material wealth and substance, spiritual identity and heritage, territory, and descendants. (Gen. 12:2-3, 17:1-8, 18:17-19, 24:1 & Heb. 6:13-15) God blessed Abraham in all things, and Abraham received everything God promised Him!
Also, see Jesus Christ as He pronounced “The Blessing” over the multitudes with the beatitudes. (Matt. 5:1-12) See how each blessing had a promise of “God-Good” attached to it? Notice the directness and assuredness of each blessing offered to the crowds. (Matt. 5:43-48)
Sometimes the promises of God are spoken before “The Blessing” is offered. An example of this is Jesus Christ and the disciples at Bethany. Jesus first commissioned them to begin preaching the gospel to every person, starting in Jerusalem, and He sent the promise of the Holy Ghost upon them, and instructed them to go and tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high. (Mark 16:15 & Luke 24:46-51) Afterwards, he lifted up his hands and blessed them and was taken up into the heavens.
Now, it is vitally important to understand, that “The Blessing” of the Lord cannot be spoken in faith without the Holy Ghost supplying the words that the person is to be blessed with. The Holy Ghost is the “Spirit of Promise.”(Eph.1:13) Therefore, when we bless others, the Holy Ghost must give to us the promise from the Word of God that goes along with blessing the person.
We should never attempt in our own abilities (human/carnal thinking) to bless people. This is the reason why Christians find themselves, like a merry-go-around, offering blessings to others off the top of their heads, by merely saying, “God bless you, God bless you, God bless you” to any and everybody. Again, “The Blessing” cannot be manifested when faith in a promise of the Word of God has not been spoken.
But, take a look at this example of how God used a righteous man named Simeon, by the unction of the Holy Ghost, to pronounce blessings and the promises of God concerning Jesus Christ when He was an infant. (Luke 2:25-35). For many years, faithfully, Simeon had been waiting on the coming and ministry of the Messiah foretold by the holy prophets. The Holy Ghost had revealed to Simeon that he would not see death until he saw Christ, the Messiah.
While in Jerusalem, one day, the Holy Ghost led Simeon to go into the temple courts. On that same day and time when Simeon arrived, Joseph and Mary were at the temple with their new-born baby Jesus to fulfill various requirements of the Law of the Old Covenant, including circumcision, formal naming of their child Jesus, and offering animal sacrifices.
In public view, by the Spirit of God, Simeon took Jesus up in his arms, and blessed Him and proclaimed Jesus as the Deliverer and Savior of Israel and a light unto the Gentiles. Simeon also blessed Mary and Joseph and said directly to Mary that her Son would be a stumbling block to Israel when they reject Him, but a rising again or salvation of Israel when they ultimately would receive Him. He also told Mary that she would experience extreme pain and anguish that would pierce her soul when her son would suffer. Referring to Jesus’ sufferings and death on the cross.
The point I want to get across to you is that as spiritual kings and priests unto God, who are filled with the Holy Ghost, we are to always yield ourselves as instruments of righteousness unto God. (Rom. 6:13) The hearts of God’s spiritual kings are always in His hand and turns as the Lord pleases. (Prov. 21:1)
God wants His spiritual kings and priest, under the unction of the Holy Ghost, to lift up holy hands and confer “The Blessing” of the Lord on our children, pre-teens, teenagers, and all others. God and the holy angles are waiting to perform the promises of God, when spoken in faith by us. (Ps. 103:20-22)
Regardless of where your child may be in their personal walk with Jesus Christ, do not be afraid, to stretch forth your hands—lay your holy hands on your child and on others—and pronounce “The Blessing” and promises of God on them.
Today, by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost with uplifted hands, bless your child, saying promised things like this:
-- I decree that “The Blessing” of the Lord is resting on my child, and they are coming into an ever deeper and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. (Ps. 127:3 & Matt.19:14)
--My child is blessed with the Spirit of the Life of Jesus Christ and is able to quickly grasp and comprehend all subjects taught in school and excels by the Anointing of Jesus Christ—ever increasing in knowledge, wisdom, strength, favor, and stature with God and men. (Luke 2:52 & Col. 3:3, & Php.4:13)
--I decree that “The Blessing” which flows through Jesus Christ has established my child within the kingdom of God and keeps them from all evil, and dangers seen and unseen. (Col.1:12-14 & II Thess.3:3)
--I am the blessed of the Lord, therefore, I decree that my house is filled with wealth and riches in righteousness forever. My child is of the generation of the upright and is blessed and mighty upon the earth. My child is a faithful steward of the earth and increases more and more in good things. (Ps. 112:1-3 & Ps. 115:12-16)
--Finally, my child, is blessed with the power to get wealth to establish the covenant God made with Abraham so that all families of the earth might be blessed. (Deut. 8:19) On purpose, my child is a happy and hilarious giver of their material wealth and substance to the Church of Jesus Christ and the poor. Therefore, my child continually reaps from the Spirit life everlasting! (II Cor. 9:6-8)
Now, let’s target “The Blessing” of the Lord on the youth in our families and nation who are suffering with substance abuse. Always remember that “The Blessing” reverses every curse, wicked, and crooked thing in life. Did you hear me? I said, “The Blessing” reverses every curse—evil handed down through generations! Generational blessings over-rule and override generational curses.
Therefore, we employ “The Blessing” to reverse the curse of substance abuse on our preteens, teenagers, and adults! We target the blessing to remove and erase substance abuse and bring about sobriety! Got it? The opposite of substance abuse is sobriety. So we decree “The Blessing” of the Lord’s sobriety on our children everywhere in their generations!
As spiritual kings and priests unto God, we know these are the end-times. We cannot permit the devil to set up his workshop in the brains of our youth—whom God has entrusted with the earth! As such, every child experimenting, using, or addicted to any illegal substance, we bless them, now saying:
--Jesus Christ has made them “clean,” in spirit, soul, and body. (John 13:11)
--We decree that the loins of our children’s minds are girded up, sober and ever looking for the glorious return of Jesus Christ, so they can receive the exceeding great grace of the Lord upon His appearance. (I Pet. 1:13)
--We decree that our children are vigilant and diligent to watch and pray all their days so that they may resist the devil with the Word of God, and watch him flee in times of temptation. (I Pet. 4:7 & 5:8)
--We decree that our children have an insatiable hunger for the Word of God—that daily they dress themselves with the breastplate of faith, love, and the helmet of salvation. For God has appointed our children to obtain salvation! (I Thess. 5:6-9)
--Finally, we decree that our children are super-spreaders of the gospel of Jesus Christ, giver amazing testimonies of deliverance from substance abuse, and boldly lead their peers and others to Christ, with signs and wonders following. (Mark 16:15-18 & II Tim. 1:8)
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, let “The Blessing” of the Lord have its free flowing course and dominion over and in the lives of our youth in their generations—delivering them from gun and gang violence, depression, fornication, homosexuality, rebelliousness, idolatry, and thievery! Amen.
In conclusion, daily, God seeks to strategically place you, in places and at set times, to bless your family and others with the promises of God—these are all divine appointments. Moreover, God will arrange it so that complete strangers will come and tell you about their personal and family troubles and struggles, so that you by servant leadership, can place “The Blessing” of the Lord with the promises of God on their lives down through their generations.
Remember, that God’s blessings are never just intended to impact one person. Rather, “The Blessing,” authored in Jesus Christ name, seeks to change and prosper the lives of every person throughout their family tree, as well as other people who will hear the glad tidings of the blessing spoken. (Ps. 34:1-3)
Be ever ready to be used as God’s mouth-piece to pronounce His blessings over people. When you look upon a person, use the eyes of the Spirit to see and listen to what the Holy Ghost is saying to you. (II Cor. 4:18) Then open up your mouth and let God speak from eternity, “The Blessing,” with the promise of God to that person.
When the Holy Ghost directs you to speak a blessing on a person, let the love, compassion, and hospitality of Jesus Christ flow through you to release all of the promises of God that the Holy Ghost desires to speak over that person. The Holy Ghost knows exactly what promise of blessing the person needs to draw them to Christ, cause them to walk in victory, and fulfill their call in Christ through their generations.
Lastly, God has made you a blessing, and requires you to speak “The Blessing” over people, so that more blessings can rebound to your life. (I Pet. 3:8-9) When you sow the blessing in faith, you must by spiritual law receive a harvest of blessings. Amen, to God be the glory for the things He has done. Make all of your blessings of others count today and forevermore!
